What Are the Goals of Elementary Mathematics?

Developing a foundation in basic arithmetic at an early age is important but there are other ways to do that than drills and worksheets. Students need to learn strategies for manipulating numbers and explore relationships between numbers.

Math Stories and Games

Learning math can and should be fun. Along with some colleagues, we created a short math story and math game for young students to learn the relationship between addition and multiplication.

How To Play?

Each alien is asking for a certain number of sandwiches that will make them full. You feed them by dragging a plate of sandwiches and dropping it onto the alien. You can't over-feed the aliens and you can't underfeed them.

hint: Sometimes you will need to group the aliens together in order to give them the right number of sandwiches. You can group aliens together by grabbing one and dropping it onto another of the same color.

There is also a "reset" button that will re-load the planet and a "back" button that will abandon the current planet and take you back to the world map. The separator (bottom left) can be used to un-group aliens if you realize they are not in the group you want.
